On Saturday, December 11th, Rachel and I were in Old Town Temecula for a fun family portrait session with William McNeal, his son Cruz, William’s girlfriend Angelica, and William’s sister Amber. William had contacted us for portraits in anticipation of two upcoming family milestones: William’s 40th birthday, and Cruz’s 2nd birthday. When discussing ideas for locations, William wanted a place where we could take advantage [...]

On Sunday, November 21, 2010 we were at one of our favorite local portrait spots, Glen Arbor Park, in Murrieta, photographing Leanne and Tony Mass and their two sons. We know Leanne through La Masters of Fine Jewelers. She and Tony were needing to update their family portraits quickly so they would have time to get their pictures back and order personalized Christmas cards. We [...]

To many people, including Rachel and myself, their dog is like a member of their family. On Saturday, August 28, 2010 we photographed this beautiful dog, Lucy, at Glen Arbor Park (better known as the “Dog Park” to the locals of Murrieta).
Earlier that morning, we’d received a call from Lucy’s mom who was having a hard time locating a photographer who could photograph and produce [...]

On June 6th, I was back at one of my favorite not-so-secret portrait spots in Old Town Murrieta to shoot family portraits for the Johnson family — Duane, Tricia, and their one year-old son Kaleb.
Although Duane and Tricia were in the mood for some happy/smiling family photos, poor little Kaleb was dealing with a slight ear infection and, although he was never fussy at all, [...]

My wife Rachel and I are fans of the old style of portraiture where everyone looks serious. Those type of portraits started out that way in the old days when you had to sit still for a long time while the camera sucked in enough light to make the exposure. Nowadays, the cast portraits for television shows such as The Sopranos or Six Feet Under [...]

Way back in 2000, just before the Dot Com bubble burst, I was the Director of Customer Experience for EBZ.com, a leading e-commerce web hosting company in San Clemente. Don’t look for them now. Seven months after I started there, a Canadian competitor bought out all of our company’s assets. One of the other employees there was Kevin Busell. After nearly 10 years, I discovered [...]

Being too busy behind the camera to update the blog is both a good thing (nice to be busy) and a bad thing (you have no idea what I’ve been up to). Most recently, we’ve been keeping busy shooting a plethora of portraits and headshots. Many of the portraits have been boudoir portraits that are surprises for grooms of upcoming weddings. So we [...]

As you may have noticed, we hate the boring old Sears Portrait Studio-style stiff posed shots inside in front of a plain (or cheesy) backdrop. Rather, we prefer to get everyone outside in the fresh air having a good time and catch people (especially the kids) being themselves.
On Sunday, November 29th, we photographed family portraits for the Sisler Family. Jessica Sisler owns [...]

On Sunday, March 22nd, I was at the Murrieta Dance Studio to take some artistic black & white portraits of some of the youngest students there.
I had previously shot similar-style portraits of the instructors there for display in large-format prints on the walls (go check ‘em out!). In those shots, I used hard-edge lighting which mainly just outlined the form of the dancer with the [...]
